Manners for Kids? Parents can Help with Back To School Etiquette

Summer is almost over, and teachers are frantically cleaning their rooms before students arrive. Meanwhile, parents are getting ready to send their children back to school. But how can parents prepare their kids for the upcoming school year? Although it’s true that reading, last-minute vacations and school shopping are important, the best way you can assist your children is by preparing them mentally, spiritually and physically. As an etiquette expert in manners for kids and more, I’ll give some tips for parents that will help everyone succeed!

Back to School Success is Possible!

Manners for Kids? Parents can Help with Back To School Etiquette

  • Over the next few weeks, you and the rest of your family should be gathering to clearly outline the goals and routines that will be expected for the upcoming school year.
  • Parents should take time to meet their child’s teacher. This helps to create a positive rapport for the year and open the lines of communication in case of any issues etc.
  • It’s important for parents to talk to children about their reputation, the need for hard work, how to think about the future, preparing for college and even their manners. Manners and respect are very important. This should be a family discussion.
  • Parents, please teach your children to respect their teachers and to prepare for class. In addition, help your kids physically get ready for each day by setting a bedtime as well as periods of the day with no TV and no phone so they can get homework done. Help kids focus by setting a consistent quiet reading time.
  • If your family is involved in sports, something must give socially, since there are only a limited number of hours in the day. There are three aspects of high school: extracurricular activism, academics and social life. Remind your child that they will only have the capacity to excel at two of the three. One must give.
  • Today’s colleges are competitive. Thus, making connections and building relationships with teachers is very important. Teach your student that teachers are human. The teacher’s pet will be at the top of the teacher’s list for recommendations.

Above all, take time to talk to your children about all these things. Teach them and explain why they must be courteous, kind, and respectful. Help to instill in them an eager, positive attitude that is open to instruction. This humility will help them to succeed in all that they do in life!
