Manners begin in the heart and are taught by parents. If you plan on traveling with your children this summer, take the time to teach them travel etiquette. In today’s blog post, I’ll share some tips for summer travel etiquette as well as go over what I would teach your children if you’re searching for “etiquette classes near me.”
How to Succeed in Traveling with Children
The first lesson in teaching etiquette to your child is to teach them how to connect with others. Start by teaching your children to look another person in the eye, to shake their hand and to make a sincere effort to connect. Practice this skill with family members.
As a parent, make sure you engage daily with your child. Connect with their interests and teach them to connect with your interests.
While traveling, point out the beauty and surroundings of the city or countryside. Teach your children to ask questions about local delicacies and local products. Encourage your child to always try new foods and never ever to say “I do not like it”. Other cultures are not accepting of “I do not like it” statements.
You are expected to have your child groomed for other cultures. Brief your child and discuss the likes and differences of the culture you will be visiting. This will definitely help your child learn how to represent our country well and present tourism in a positive light.
Next, teach your child to respect cultural expectations. This will benefit them for the rest of their lives!
Learn the rules of the culture you visit. Take the time to learn a couple of phrases together, such as “good morning”, “please” and “thank you” in the local language.
Teach your children to observe people around them and to put the comfort of others ahead of their own. Make sure to maintain a calm demeanor around your children so they will learn this too…a calm spirit always makes others feel good when mistakes are made.
As a family, always ask questions. Asking questions shows interest and gives a sense of desired connection to each other and to locals you are visiting.
Last but not least, gratitude plays a major role in how tourists are treated. An attitude of gratitude is universal and will take your child far in life. A public thank you is always valuable. Expressions of gratitude while traveling build trust and kudos are always gained. Never be demanding and only make polite requests. Be complimentary to local residents about the beauty of their city or countryside. Teach your children to give compliments and how to properly receive compliments.
Leave pleasant memories behind for the people you visit. By doing so, you may help others to view Americans as polite, well-mannered and acting with an attitude of gratitude.
