This summer, I had the privilege to attend a course in etiquette training in London. A group of ladies from all across the globe and I learned how to effectively deliver social and business etiquette skills. This training has and will continue to enrich my skills and help me better teach my Dallas etiquette classes for adults and children. In this post, I’ll go over some of the topics I learned about and explain how you can enroll for one of my manners classes.
Personal and Business Etiquette Begins with a Handshake
By knowing the rules of etiquette, one is better able to understand social situations! These rules allow everyone to feel a sense of connection. Etiquette begins with a handshake, good eye contact and a smile. It is how we make others feel.
As a Dallas etiquette consultant, my starting point is to teach and set the pace for “meet and greet” interactions. My students are taught to meet people with a smile and greet them. One important part of this (that makes a huge difference) is to study and care about the culture of those around you. Our world is shrinking and, in the business world, we must work to make genuine connections.
As I continue to speak at Texas banks, corporations and civic organizations, I have realized that greeting, behavior and connections are the primary elements that can contribute to maintaining an effective and productive corporate environment.
Of course, this cannot be achieved in one day, as it needs to be an ongoing effort.
My training this summer in London included the following topics:
- Meeting and greeting
- Ways to connect instantly with others in conversation
- How to master nervousness
- Social media etiquette
- Interview skills
- International training in dining etiquette
- Ideal communication methods and tactics
- Proper presentation and delivery of oneself through voice, body and eyes
- Understanding personality types
- Personal image
- The Thank You note
- How to choose stationary and business cards, including the importance of business cards
- How to read your audience
- How to get proper feedback from others
The Importance of Saying “Thank You”
So, in light of my summer course in London, I offer a special Thank You to The British School of Excellence for a wonderful week of training. This course is led by the most amazing gentleman, Philip Sykes. Thank you, Philip Sykes!
